The kiddos LOVED this activity! After looking at photos of planet earth taken from space and discussing the colors they see and what they think the blue and green is, we decided to make our own planet earths. Firstly, I drew a big circle in the middle of a paper towel using a black sharpie. (it needs to be waterproof…you will see why.) Then I gave them blue and green thick markers to color planet earth. Once they were done, I gave them a paint brush and a cup filled with water. They needed to wet the whole circle and watch the colors bleed together. Once they were dry, we had them cut on the black line (ahem…this is why it needs to be waterproof – I learned this the hard way 🙂 ) and glue their creations on black A4 construction paper.
* some students wanted to place a small star sticker on their country to show where they come from. I gave them that option if they wanted to.
